Photo-Biography of the Ultimate Rock 'n' Roll Survivor!

Keith Richards could qualify as the poster child for rock n' roll excess. His once-sweet and innocent face shows the results of too much drugs, drink and hard living. Yet, despite all the notoriety, Keef is deservedly revered - and loved - as the musical heart of the Rolling Stones and a true carrier of the rock 'n' roll torch. Bill Milkowski and White Star Publishers combine talents to offer up this sumptuous, perceptive biography of a rock legend.

Milkowski does an adroit job of chronicling Richards' transformation from fresh-faced R&B guitarist to rock 'n roll bad boy to stoner libertine to rock elder statesman. Past bad press notwithstanding, Richards comes across as a talented, down-to-earth, literate and cultured individual "who happens to be one of the most iconic guitarists of all time."

Milkowski's concise, sympathetic yet critical narrative is intermixed with over 130 mostly color photographs, many full-page. Most of the pix show Richards with the Stones on stage or in the studio. Other images show him with fans, family, hoisting a pint, etc. Visually KEITH RICHARDS, A ROCK 'N' ROLL LIFE is a delight.

Lord love a duck, Richards is pushing 70 and the old boy is still rocking out. Pick up a copy of Milkowski's delightful tribute and enjoy. Recommended.

Great photos--a little light on text

This is a nice photo album. Many fine pictures of Keith Richards--and the Rolling Stones--from Day One. That makes this a nice addition to one's rock and roll library. However, it would have been good to have had more text.

The photos, as noted, are fine. The text is quite telegraphic. Here, a few sentences on Brian Jones, Anita Pallenberg, and Keith. The story is obviously one of substance, but there is little detail provided.

The description of the albums created over time (whether Keith's solos or Mick Jagger's solos, or Stones' works) tends to be, again, underdone. While the photos are wonderful--and the aging of Richards is well depicted--the volume does cry out for more detail on tje music.

Still, for what it is, this works pretty well.

This book is big on lots of high quality , mostly posed photos .
A basic history of Keith & the band is included.
An easy read.

About the Author
N. Gregory Mankiw is Robert M. Beren Professor of Economics and Chair of the Department of Economics at Harvard University. He studied economics at Princeton University and MIT. He has taught macroeconomics, microeconomics, statistics, and principles of economics. Professor Mankiw is a prolific writer and a regular participant in academic and policy debates. His research includes work on price adjustment, consumer behavior, financial markets, monetary and fiscal policy, and economic growth. His published articles have appeared in academic journals such as the AMERICAN ECONOMIC REVIEW, JOURNAL OF POLITICAL ECONOMY, and QUARTERLY JOURNAL OF ECONOMICS and in more widely accessible forums including THE NEW YORK TIMES, THE WASHINGTON POST, THE WALL STREET JOURNAL, and FORTUNE. In addition to his teaching, research, and writing, Professor Mankiw has been a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research, an adviser to the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and the Congressional Budget Office, and a member of the ETS test development committee for the advanced placement exam in economics. From 2003 to 2005, he served as chairman of the President's Council of Economic Advisers. it's "all that and a bag of chips"

This is a demanding high school (or undemanding college) introductory textbook on the subject. Only the most rudimentary algebra is required, and honestly one could easily get through the book without even that.

The edition is handsomely printed, with a font that's easy on the eye and plenty of colorful and helpfully-glossed graphs. The chapters themselves are not too long, which helps with a student's morale, believe me.

Recently I was put into a situation where I had to go, in the space of about 4 months, from knowing jack-squat about economics to being able to teach college-level macroeconomics!

Well, I frantically collected a ton of textbooks and articles about macroeconomics, ranging from the elementary to the abstruse and got to work.

And I gotta say: when something befuddled me and I found myself threshing about from text to text for the best explanation, it was nearly always Mankiw who came through with the critical phrasing that made the idea click and got me saying: "Ohhhhhh! I get it!" most often.

Not that this was always the case. There were times when I found better explanations elsewhere (e.g., Chapter 19, on the foreign currency market, is exasperatingly elliptical and could use a major dummying-down), but more often than not, Mr. Mankiw had the goods: the clearest and most easy-to-follow way of wording or graphing a slippery or counter-intuitive concept.

Of course, it's easy to hate Mr. Mankiw: he's young, he's handsome, he's brilliant (one of the youngest full professors ever at Harvard), and he's rich (his textbooks are now standard in AP courses nationwide). Jerk!

Because of these reasons, I would love to trash his book, showing how it "ain't all that."

Well, it is. Gulp.

Only one note: If you're planning on getting this book to study macroeconomics independently, you will find one irritating drawback: there are exercises at the end of each chapter, but no answers in the back. Essentially, therefore, it's a book for schoolchildren, not mature learners.

But its explanations -- believe me -- can't be beat.

Very comprehensive and well written!

I use this book in my economics class and all I can say is that is excellent. The author describes the basic concepts without being too complicated and messy. He keeps the things simple and incorporates some real-life economic problems and discussions into each chapter. The book overall provides a clear insight into microeconomics and shows what it is all about.

The Best Book On 6 Sensory Living

Well-grounded advice on living with integrity

I'd never heard of Sonia Choquette before, but work in a library and have seen and read literally hundreds of books on this topic over the past 10 years. I was about to dismiss this one, as I feel like I've read enough books of this nature and should move on to other topics....'-) As I quickly skimmed through some of the chapters,however, I was impressed by how grounded, sensible and "high level" Ms. Choquette's work really is. This is not just a book about trusting your vibes; it is a really well-rounded and well-GROUNDED manual for living a life of kindness (to yourself and others), integrity - (being TRUE to yourself and others) and creativity (encouraging the development and expression of our talents and passions). The author has a strong grasp of some really key spiritual ideals (including Christian, Buddhist, Sufi) and she describes the value of meditation and quiet in stilling the mind to connect with our higher selves. She does this in a way that speaks to the truth in all of us without much reference to religion or spirituality per se. If I were to recommend just one book on developing intuition, connecting with your higher self, or general self-development, I would actually feel comfortable in recommending this one because of its breadth, simplicity and the obvious integrity of its author. If you truly followed just one of her tools for developing what she calls "six-sensory living" your life would improve immeasurably. Many of her tools I've tried myself as presented by other writers and teachers and they all do work.

Rational Approach to the Extrasensory

I have been a fan of Sonia Choquette's work for the last few years. Her warm, down-to-earth writing style makes the metaphysical aspect of life not only remarkable but absolutely believable.
This latest work of hers is no exception. She gives suggestions on how to open up your psychic sense in a graduated format - each exercise builds on the previous one. Yet, since these exercises can simultaneously stand on their own, you can take the parts of the book you are most comfortable with and forget the rest if you want to.
I have been involved in metaphysical studies for several years and own at least a hundred books in the subject matter - and this one ranks right up at the top for it's clear-cut suggestions and conversational tone. This and Ms. Choquette's other publications are well worth the cover prices, especially for people new to the topic.

A Good, Yet Western Approach

No Way Down by Graham Bowley is a good book concerning the 2008 K2 Tragedy. I have read every book and account concerning this incident and feel this one deserves 4 out of 5 stars. After a brief chapter of trekking to Base Camp, we jump right into Camp IV and summit day. I'm not sure the reader is able to comprehend all of the emotions that assisted in creating the `summit fever' without understanding just how long most of the teams had been waiting for the summit attempt. In addition to the 2008 summit, there are a good number of previous and more historical ascents documented as well, especially concerning Art Gilkey that lead to the Gilkey Memorial. I do commend Bowley on his research into avalanches and seracs and his explanation of these items right when they need to be mentioned. There is a great epilogue that details the author's adventures travelling to interview as many of the survivors and family of the deceased. Bowley's own opinion into the conflicting, if not controversial accounts concerning the final moments of Gerard McDonnell are well documented and almost convince me. The only thing that is missing is (all of) the Sherpa's stories. Reading One Mountain Thousand Summits or Buried in the Sky tells more of their story and doesn't have the Western approach only. I would recommend this book in addition to the previous mentioned to really grasp this tragedy.

Short and sweet...but wish it was long and rich, frankly

No question you'll finish this book in a plane ride. The story is gripping and told with the velocity of a pulp fiction adventure story, and the "I can't believe this actually happened" factor will propel you right to the end. The author does a great job of organizing facts for an event he wasn't on site to experience (a critique I've noticed from others who prefer a Krakauerian perspective), and for the minimal time it takes to read, it's worth the effort.

That said, there is something really, really light about this book. I was absolutely surprised at how little of it is devoted to either the history of K2 or an analysis of the actual events, really anything that would give this book some girth. As it is, it's bare bones. Maybe it does take the perspective of an actual climber like Krakauer to make this sort of thing feel personal or real, or to give it some context. As it is, it almost feels like one of those "An Oral History of..." magazine articles, where everyone from a particular event is interviewed, and then their quotes are put in chronological order, with little more added. It's interesting, but it's also...flat, in a way.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that this book doesn't stick with you. You'll read it, be enthralled for a couple hours by the "oh my god, how can this get worse" factor...and then it ends abruptly, and that was that.

Human weakness and strength

Graham Bowley manages to put you 'on the scene'. Even a reader with no particular interest in climbing will be fascinated by the extraordinary attraction that mighty mountains can have on some people and of the human side of the dramatic events that took place on K2 August 2008. These are the two main achievements by the the author who remarkably does not have a background in mountaineering. Fortunately Bowley has researched the events behind the book well and he writes superbly.

You meet a number of individuals most of them passionate about advanced mountain climbing. The Sherpas climb and carry
to make a living.
The agreed plan to coordinate the climb among the various teams soon falls apart as several of
the climbers seem to loose their judgement climbing towards the peak. The concern about your fellow climbers melts away, among some climbers, into thin air in the demanding climb towards the top of K2. An example:In spite of all planning several climbers keep going although they know that they will arrive late in the day and that climbing down the mountain in darkness will be seriously dangerous. This will expose them, their teams and probably other climbers to life threatening danger. This is proof of some climbers' mindboggling passion for the ultimate climb.
Descending the mountain proves to be a disaster for several climbers. The story shines a clear light on the individual
climbers and their personalities and their (in some cases) extraordinary behaviour. Some acts of true heroism are
simply remarkable.
Bowley makes no strong judgement calls but leaves that to the reader. As a non mountain climber you may get the impression that some of the deaths could, perhaps, have been avoided. But then only those who survived would know.
This book is on par with 'Into thin Air'.

Leadership as a personal journey

I am always interested in new voices on issues of leadership. As a long time student of leadership herself, Schlichting intertwines her life experiences as a female chief executive (currently as CEO of Henry Ford Health System) with lessons from inventor and innovator Ford himself. Given the years she has spent working in Detroit during turbulent times, the juxtaposition is an intriguing one. Under Schlichting, HFHS won the coveted Baldridge Quality Award for performance excellence, with its national recognition for innovation, improvement, and visionary leadership. The seven-year journey her team undertook, from top executives to janitorial staff, is a model of patience, perseverance, and the use of continuous feedback that led HFHS to growth in efficiency, workforce satisfaction, and customer service.

Detroit Love

People always tell me how awful Detroit is. As far as I am concerned though, the Motor City has always been a place of great memories since my childhood. From the Detroit Lions, Meeting Mr. Barry Sanders, Mr. Herman Moore, The Jacksons (remember 1983?) Mosque#1, the auto show, Ford Field, Berverly Hills Cop I, all those places to eat, Mowtown holds a special place for me. No matter where you go there are reminders of the Ford Motor Industry in the form of old buildings, factories, and other structures.

While the focus of this work is to discuss leadership reform in America, I found the contents to bring back many wonderful memories of my trips to the Motor City.

I believe this work should be a point of reference for all those attempting to rebuild aspects of inner-city life in America. An equally important aspect of "Unconventional Leadership," is the emphasis on diversity in the workforce, which needs to be cited.in light of the year 2016. There are many incredible insights given by the author which are of value.

Looking forward to the day the Motor City becomes new again and when that happens Ms. Schlichting will be there.

The book has great content for an FNP student BUT THERE ARE NO LABELS OR TABLE OF CONTENTS LISTED IN THE E-BOOK VERSION! Until this is fixed, It is too much of a hassle to even use the book!

Excellent reference book

Ferri is an excellent reference for class and clinical rotations. As an ANP student I am using this text as a referencewhen writing my clinical logs and case studies. It is easy to read as the format gives you etiology, epidemology, DDX, TX,and follow-up care. I believe this is a must have for students and providers.

Great for nurses as well as all medical professionals!

As an RN, I found this book to be a valuable tool essential for learning about cosmetic injectables! It is very detailed with pertinent information about injection technique/methods, precautions, pearls of injection, as well as anatomical considerations to name a few. The information is very clear for a novice injector as well as for the advanced injector. What also makes it a great reference is the video segment that goes along with each chapter in addition to the detailed illustrations. The video segments makes it especially helpful for visual learners. I find it to be a great investment for learning about the subject matter!

Excellent book

For all physicians, including plastic surgeons/facial plastic surgeons and dermatologists who perform injections with fillers and neuromodulators this book offers concise, easy to access, accurate, useful print and video content for basic and advanced injection techniques. For beginner injectors- or advanced injectors who may desire a refresher on a less frequently used technique, I highly recommend this book.

Extremely disappointing !

The textbook was very informative . The videos were a huge disappointment . The providers hands blocked the view at times and she rarely explained what she was doing.
I purchased the book mainly for the videos.
